GRANTS AWARDED FOR PLANTINGS, MASTER PLAN

The town has been awarded two beautification grants, for more tree plantings and for a five-year master plan for the town's trees.

It has also hired Tracy Cline of Wytheville as its tree specialist to implement its planning grant.

An America the Beautiful Grant Program will help produce a master plan including data gathered from a recent tree inventory.

The $5,000 Green Virginia 2000 grant will fund a project to plant and maintain trees at major roads into town, including U.S. 11 (E. Main St.), Peppers Ferry Road, U.S. 52 North (4th St.), U.S. 11 West and U.S. 21 South.
