RAIN WASHES OUT PARADES THROUGHOUT THE REGION

Saturday's rain washed out the Roanoke Christmas Parade and led to the cancellation of others from Bedford to Wytheville.

Organizers waited until 11:30 a.m. before deciding to call off the Roanoke parade, which had been scheduled to start at 12:40 p.m.

A new date has not been scheduled, as organizers planned to consult with participants before deciding when - or if - there will be a second attempt.

In Floyd County, the postponement removed a scheduling conflict between the parade and the Floyd County High School girls' basketball Group A state championship game in Salem.

Floyd's parade has been reset for 3 p.m. today.

Christiansburg's Christmas parade has been rescheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m.

Wytheville's parade will be Saturday at 5 p.m., and Bedford's will start at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Blacksburg's parade also was canceled, officials said.
