MARTINSVILLE MAN DIES IN CAR ACCIDENT

An 88-year-old Martinsville man was killed Saturday afternoon when his car was struck by a van on U.S. 220 Business in Collinsville, state Trooper J.R. Elgin said.

Oswald Wade Smith was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville-Henry County at 5:23 p.m., about three hours after the accident.

Smith and his wife, Darlee, were leaving a shopping center parking lot when his car pulled into the path of the van, driven by Ladana Hodgin, Elgin said.

Darlee Smith was admitted to Memorial Hospital, but her condition was not available Sunday night. Hodgin was treated and released from Memorial Hospital.

Elgin said all three people involved in the accident were wearing seat belts.
