OBIT BURWELL, LEWIS BAXTER
BURWELL, Lewis Baxter, 72, of Floyd, died at his home Sunday, December 5,
1993. He was the son of the late judge, John Edward Burwell and Margie Logan
Burwell. He was a veteran of WWII and a retired chemist. He was a member of
the Society of the Cincinnati. He was a historian of Floyd County Folklore and
had compiled a book on Jacksonville Cemetery of Floyd. Surviving are his wife,
Virginia Agee Burwell; a sister, Mary Custis Smith, Buchanan; one niece, Nancy
S. Brooks, Richmond; two nephews, Robert C. Smith Jr., Buchanan, and Lewis B.
Smith, Roanoke; four grandnephews and one grandniece, Scott and Lee Brooks,
Robert C. Smith III, Heather Smith and Adam Smith. Graveside service 11 am.
Tuesday at East Hill Cemetery, Salem, with the Rev. Fleet Powell officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Woods Funeral Home.
