COUPLE'S LOSS PROMPTS ANNUAL MEMORIAL GIFT

Phyllis and Beverly Smith have felt a loss in their lives, and they respond to that emptiness by giving to others.

The Smiths' granddaughter, Jamie Dawn Smith, died in an automobile accident in 1988. She was 19.

The Smiths have contributed to the Good Neighbors Fund in her memory each year since her death.

Their annual gift to the fund is a way of remembering their grandchild and easing someone else's burden at the same time.

"We don't have Jamie to give to," Phyllis Smith says, "so we give to someone else what we can't give to her."

\ Checks should be made payable to Good Neighbors Fund and mailed to Roanoke Times & World-News, P.O. Box 1951, Roanoke 24008.

Names - but not the amounts of donations - of contributing businesses, individuals or organizations, as well as memorial and honorific designations, will be listed. Those requesting that their names not be used will remain anonymous. If no preference is stated, the donor's name will be listed.

Gifts cannot be earmarked for any particular individual or family. Gifts are tax-deductible.
