OBIT THOMPSON, SAMUEL A. JR
THOMPSON, Samuel A. Jr, 74, of Roanoke, died Sunday, December 5, 1993, in a
local hospital. Mr. Thompson was an elder at Second Presbyterian Church. He
was one of the original founding members of the Roanoke Chapter of Mended
Hearts. Mr. Thompson was a former pharmaceutical representative in Roanoke and
Southwest Virginia. He was a 32nd degree mason and a member of Lakeland Lodge
#190. During World War II, he served as a captain in the Marine Corps. He is
survived by his wife, Page Duke Thompson; two sons, Samuel A. Thompson III and
wife, Glenda, Charlotte, N.C., Charles Duke Thompson and wife, Patricia,
Chapel Hill, N.C.; one brother, Charles E. Thompson, Mt. Olive, N.C.; three
grandsons, Matthew, Benjamin and Scott Thompson. A memorial service will be
held at Second Presbyterian Church, 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 1993, with
Dr. William R. Klein officiating. The family will receive friends at the
church following the memorial service. Interment will be in Maplewood
Cemetery, Mt. Olive, N.C., 2 p.m. Thursday, December 9, 1993. In lieu of
flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Second Presbyterian Church
Fund, 214 Mountain Ave., S.W., Roanoke, VA 24016 or Mended Hearts Assn., P.O.
Box 20544, Roanoke, VA 24018. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
