The School Board also will hear about an invitation from Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Abingdon, for the county to participate in a regional effort to network school divisions with universities and community colleges through a fiber optic network. Funding for such a network would come from various sources including gifts from C&P Telephone Co., federal grants and local efforts.
In other business, the board will get a presentation on ways to cut costs through more efficient energy management operating systems in buildings.
Honeywell Inc., one of several companies to develop plans for cost-cutting by energy improvement performance systems, has approached school administrative systems with a plan that will be shared with the board for member reactions.
At this point, school officials are more interested in the concept than with contracting with any particular company on such a plan.
The board meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the County Administration Building.
