WALLACE TAKES CABBIE FOR A RIDE

A New York cab driver gave up the wheel Friday when he learned his passenger was NASCAR star Rusty Wallace.

The cab skidded to a halt at a stoplight and the driver jumped out, Wallace told The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer.

"I'm not driving with you in the car," the driver said, getting in the back seat with Wallace's wife, Patti. "I've watched you drive, and you're going to drive."

Wallace balked. The driver insisted. So Wallace took the wheel and drove on to the Waldorf Astoria hotel for the NASCAR awards banquet.
