KLAAS CASE REOPENS PROBE OF 1973 DEATH

Deputies are taking a new look at the 1973 death of a high school student, originally ruled a suicide, because she was last seen alive by the man charged in the Polly Klaas killing.

"Certainly, the identification and arrest of Richard Allen Davis was the catalyst. We didn't pick up a 20-year-old case just like that," San Mateo County Sheriff's Capt. John Wells said Wednesday.

Wells said the Sheriff's Department probably would decide by the end of the week whether to reopen the investigation of the death of 18-year-old Marlene Voris to see if Davis was involved.
