ROANOKE WOMAN KILLED CROSSING ROAD

A Roanoke woman was struck by a car and killed Wednesday night as she attempted to cross four lanes of traffic in the 2400 block of Orange Avenue Northeast.

Evelyn L. Scott, 62, of the 100 block of Hershberger Road, was walking north across the road after "having words" with a man, police reported. The driver of a pickup truck barely avoided hitting Scott, who then continued walking and was struck by a car coming in the other direction, police said.

The car was driven by Dimple Fern Shelton, 63, of Salem, according to police.

No charges have been filed in the accident.
