COVINGTON - Matt Matheny scored a game-high 29 points as the Group AAA Knights whipped the Group AA Mountaineers in a non-district game.
Alleghany (1-2) led 13-7 with three minutes remaining in the first quarter. Cave Spring (1-1) blew open the game open by outscoring the Mountaineers 29-14 the rest of the half.
James Irvin added 21 points for Cave Spring, and James Hughes led Alleghany with 17 points.

INDEPENDENCE - Keith Weatherman scored on a driving layup with three seconds left, was fouled, and converted the free throw to cap the Blue Devils' enormous fourth-quarter comeback and give them a Mountain Empire District victory over the Buffaloes.
Grayson County (2-0, 2-0) trailed 43-28 early in the fourth quarter, but went on a 16-0 run to take a 44-43 lead with 3 minutes, 38 seconds left.
Phillip Marshall led the Buffaloes (1-1, 1-1) with 24 points, and Shane Griffith led Grayson County with 18.

MARTINSVILLE - Michael Martin scored a game-high 20 points, and Manti Venable added 15 as the Bulldogs (3-1, 2-1) edged the Cavaliers in a Piedmont District contest.
Jermaine Fitzgerald led Chatham with 16 points.
\ Fieldale-Collinsville 67\ Bassett 50
COLLINSVILLE - Ben Seay scored 18 points as the Cavaliers rolled past the Bengals in the Piedmont District.
After outscoring Fieldale-Collinsville 21-10 in the first quarter, Bassett led 29-25 at halftime. The Cavaliers battled back in the second half. Seay scored eight points and Brian Alley had six of his 10 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for Fieldale-Collinsville (2-1, 2-1).
\ Bland 88\ Fort Chiswell 81
BLAND - Jes Selfe scored 19 points to lead the Rockets (1-1, 1-1) to a Mountain Empire District victory over the Pioneers (0-1, 0-1).
The Rockets made eight of nine free throws in the final 35 seconds to seal the victory. For the game, Bland was 19-of-28; Fort Chiswell hit 27 of 41.
Jody Burnett led the Pioneers with 25 points. Dyer Jackson added 23.

ROCKY GAP - The Maroon Tide was held to one basket in the first quarter but rallied to beat the Eagles in the Mountain Empire District.
Tito Crockett, Ken Houtz and Matt Snow combined for 42 points, including 16 in the second quarter when Galax (1-1, 1-0) cut a 16-2 deficit to 23-21 at halftime. The Maroon Tide took the lead for good in the third quarter.
Rocky Gap (0-2, 0-2) cut its deficit to three in the fourth quarter, but was hurt by 2-for-7 free-throw shooting in the last eight minutes.

BUENA VISTA - The three-point line is still smoking.
Parry McCluer (1-1) and Rockbridge County (1-1) pumped in a combined 17 3-pointers as the Fighting Blues won the non-district matchup.
Kris Carter led Parry McCluer with 33 points - including five baskets from beyond the 3-point arc.
Michael Chambers and Marty Early led the Wildcats with 20 points apiece.

HOT SPRINGS - The Chargers were limited to nine field goals in the last three quarters, falling to the Gladiators in a non-district game.
Bath County (1-1) was shut out from the field in the third period.
Michael Wilkerson scored 19 points and Mike Wieger had 13 to pace Riverheads (2-0). Bath County got 18 points from Kris Phillips.
\ Lynchburg Christian 71\ Carlisle 65
MARTINSVILLE - Landon Elder scored 17 points to lead the Bulldogs past the Chiefs in the Virginia Independent Conference.
Trent Richardson and Jason Brown added 14 points each for LCA (3-1, 2-0).
Rod Mitchell had 23 for Carlisle (1-3, 1-2) and Paul Ford added 21.

NEW CASTLE - The Pioneers beat the Indians' press in the fourth quarter for some easy baskets to pull away for a non-district victory.
Chris Blankenship scored eight of his 16 points in the fourth quarter to spark Craig County (1-0). Robbie Huffman had 15 points and 19 rebounds for the Rockets.
Donnie Costigan scored 20 points for the Indians (4-1).
