EX-TEACHER CITED IN CAR-BUS ACCIDENT

A retired teacher whose car collided with a school bus Thursday was charged Friday with running a red light, Roanoke police said.

Claire Newman, 56, drove her car into the path of a bus at Elm Avenue and Fifth Street Southwest.

Neither the bus driver, Eileen Harrison, nor the one student on board was injured.

Two passengers in Newman's car were treated at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and released. Newman, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured.
