OBIT-LUCAS, LEWIS BROWN

LUCAS, Lewis Brown, 82, of Newport, died Thursday evening, December 9, 1993, at his home following a long illness. Born in Giles County on June 27, 1911, he was a son of the late Edgar Lee and Fannie Porterfield Lucas. Mr. Lucas was a member of the Sherry Memorial Christian Church and attended the Newport Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, was a lifelong farmer in Giles County and worked for the Giles County School System and Virginia Department of Highways. Surviving are his wife, "Tillie" Price Lucas; three sons, Calvin Brown Lucas and wife, Virginia, Dale Fitzgerald Lucas, and Shannon Leon Lucas and wife, Beth, all of Newport; one daughter, Shelia Joy Collins and husband, Jeff, of Newport; three grandchildren, Christopher Matthew Lucas, April Nicole Lucas and Rachael Natele Lucas, all of Newport; one brother, Andrew Caudill Lucas of Newport. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke. Burial will be in the Lucas Family Cemetery at Newport. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
