PC TRAINING FOR FARMERS

Farmers who get computers for Christmas can benefit from a beginning computer workshop being offered by the Cooperative Extension Service at nine locations around the state.

The workshop, entitled "Using Computers to Manage the Modern Farm II," will include discussions of computer operating systems, farm accounting, spreadsheets and other topics.

In Western Virginia the workshops will be offered at:

Jan. 27 and 28, at Lord Botetourt High School in Daleville.

March 3 and 4, at Southwest Virginia Community College in Richlands.

Jan. 17, at Franklin County High School in Rocky Mount. This session will include only the second day's offerings of the course.

The first day's offering, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., includes an introduction to microcomputers and to the Windows operating system.

The second day's program runs from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and looks at business record-keeping and an introduction to the Quicken software, check writing, statement reconciliation and financial reports. The afternoon workshop will focus on farm-business planning, farm management software, and spreadsheets.

The programs are free but interested persons should register by Dec. 31. To register, call Gordon Groover at (703) 231-5850 or Jim Pease at 231-4178.
