At 7 p.m., police said Norman Pleasant stopped his vehicle at a stop sign at the intersection of Cove Road and Aspen Street Northwest. Police said two men approached and demanded that Pleasant give up his vehicle.
Pleasant quickly relinquished his car, police said.
Just before 8:30 p.m., police officers spotted Pleasant's vehicle in the 600 block of 11th Street Northwest and turned to pursue the car. Two men in the vehicle abandoned it on Essex Street Northwest and fled into a residential neighborhood, according to a police news release.
About 20 minutes later, police responded to another car theft in the 1000 block of Lafayette Boulevard Northwest. The driver, Craig Williams, got out of his car at B&G Grocery after he was approached by four men who demanded his vehicle.
Police said both Pleasant and Williams reported that the carjackers did not use weapons in the thefts.
Roanoke Police Lt. Ron Carlisle said an investigation of the carjackings was continuing late Sunday and it had not been determined if the crimes were related.
