The Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority has sold the first piece of property in the Shaffers Crossing Industrial Park to an electrical company.
Newcomb Electrical Co. has bought four lots at Johnston and 27th streets. The firm, now at 3507 Shenandoah Ave. N.W., needs more space. The site, slightly more than a half-acre, will cost $30,000 an acre.
The authority began developing the Shaffers Crossing project several years ago. Wesley White, land planning director of the authority, said he expects the demand for the property will increase sharply when the Peters Creek Road extension is finished. The road project, which will link Melrose Avenue and Brandon Avenue, will pass less than a mile west of the industrial park.
