OBIT-BOWER, OMA GERTRUDE

BOWER, Oma Gertrude, 74, of Roanoke, died Monday, December 13, 1993 in a local hospital. She had been in declining health for the past two years. Mrs. Bower was born July 16, 1919 in Northfork, W. Va., the daughter of the late Ruby Price and Florence Arvesta (Russell) Shupe. On October 26, 1936, she married Eugene Charles Bower in Welch, W. Va. and remained in West Virginia until moving to Roanoke in 1955. Although divorced, they remained devoted to each other until he passed away, December 5, 1993. She will be buried at his side. Mrs. Bower was a former hairdresser at Jolie's Beauty Shop. She was also preceded in death by a baby brother, Clarence Elmo, and one sister, Hallie Mae Christian. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Sandra Bower, Roanoke; two daughters, Brenda M. Brugh, Roanoke and Patricia A. Crouch and companion, Rocky Swisher, of Harrisonburg; grandchildren, Darrell Bowles and wife, Karyna Heffernan, Brooklyn, N.Y., Edward L. Powers Jr., Richmond, and Kathleen Snellings and husband, Dwayne, Richmond, Yvette Beheler and husband, Steve, of Roanoke; three brothers, Thomas Howard Shupe, Christiansburg, James William Shupe, Daytona Beach, Fla., and Roy Lee Shupe, Westland, Mich.; one sister, Lois Maryline Mullins, Ormond Beach, Fla. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lotz Roanoke Chapel by Rev. Raymond Powers Jr. officiating, with interment in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p. m. at the Lotz Roanoke Chapel. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Virginia.
