Art professor Z.L. FENG received several awards for his watercolor paintings, including top prize for "Morning Glories" at the 11th annual Montana Watercolor Society National Juried Competition held in Butte, Mont. His watercolor "Good Fence Make Good Neighbor" took second place at the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society 14th annual Juried Exhibition held in Somerset, Penn.
Feng has received other awards from Colorado, Georgia and Mississippi art competitions.
\ MICHAEL CRONIN, professor of speech communication and director of the oral communication program, recently published a feature article in the Technological Horizons in Education journal. The article was entitled "Mission Possible: Better Listening Through Interactive Multimedia Instruction."
The New College of Global Studies has named 15 faculty members and community residents to serve on three committees. The communication skills acquisition group includes CLAY WAITE, MARGARET DEVANEY, MICHAEL PACKER, GEORGE GRICE and JEFF SAPERSTEIN.

\ ROBERT WHISONANT, head of the geology department, was awarded the Neil Miner award as 1993's top educator of the year by the National Association of Geology Teachers.
Whisonant has been on the Radford University faculty since 1971 and received tenure in 1976. He was promoted to professor in 1982. He is a graduate of Clemson University and earned his master's and doctoral degrees at Florida State University.
\ ROBERT STANSILL GIBSON, professor emeritus of library science, has been named the Media Educator of the Year in Higher Education by Virginia's Educational Media Association.
Gibson has taught and done research at Radford University, Florida State University, the University of Georgia and Louisburg College. He has an advanced master's degree in library science and a master's in academic librarianship from Florida State University. Gibson retired from Radford University in 1992 and now lives in North Carolina.

Physical Education professor JERRY BEASLEY led a martial arts seminar at a karate center in Altus, Okla., on the multicultural approach to combat in Filipino martial arts. He also published an article, "An Introduction to Bruce Lee's `Tao of Jeet Kune Do': How to Use and Understand the Most Famous Text in the Martial Arts," in Blackbelt magazine.
Senior ANNE FALLS has been awarded the Frances Mays Scholarship from the Virginia Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. This is the highest honor bestowed on an undergraduate major in Virginia.
Counselor education professor PAULA HELEN STANLEY completed a three-year study of junior high students in Fayetteville, N.C., and discovered significant differences in self-concept among children of different races, genders and grades. Male and minority students scored lower than other groups in self-concept scores.
