PH GIRLS FALL TO GW-DANVILLE

Alithia Guntel scored four of six overtime points as host George Washington-Danville handed Patrick Henry its fourth straight loss 57-54 in girls' high school basketball Wednesday night.

The score was tied after the first, third and fourth periods, with the Eagles leading 33-31 at halftime.

Annette Wilson led GW (3-2) with 22 points, and Michelle Wainer added 12.

Patrick Henry (0-4) was paced by senior Elisha Jones with 18, Carrie Moore with 12 and Artrice Webb with 10.

Parry McCluer 60, Roanoke Catholic 47: Nathan Baker scored 15 and Kris Carter had 14 to lead the Fighting Blues to a non-district boys' victory over the host Celtics.

Roanoke Catholic (1-1) went on a 15-0 run to cut the score to 50-47, but Parry McCluer (3-1) played tough defense and made six consecutive free throws to help seal the win.

Catholic was led by Mike Kolnok with 21 points, including five 3-pointers, and Paul Bratton with 12. Bratton also had a team-high 10 rebounds.

\ Franklin County 60, Bassett 51: At Rocky Mount, a 22-14 third-quarter run helped the Eagles (2-3) overcome a 28-24 halftime deficit on the way to defeating the Bengals in a non-district boys' game. K.C. Hancock's 14 points led the Eagles.
