Kinsey Shane & Associates has until March 1 to submit a recommendation to the Salem School Board on whether to renovate the 54-year-old building or put up a new one.
The school board has decided that the school needs some sort of rejuvenated facilities. Carver, which has 380 students, began in 1939 as a black high school and remained such until 1966 when it was integrated and became Salem Intermediate School.
It was an intermediate school for about 11 years before becoming an elementary school and being renamed Carver in the late 1970s.
