IN SCHOOL

DENNY CASEY, a science teacher at William Byrd High School, has been selected president-elect of the Virginia Association of Science Teachers.

\ JANICE C. AGEE, a data processing teacher at the Arnold R. Burton Technology Center, has received the Secondary Teacher of the Year Award from Roanoke County Schools.

Agee serves as cooperative office education coordinator and Future Business Leaders of America adviser at the school and has served the Virginia Business Education Association in various capacities.

Agee previously was named the Walter L. Shell Virginia Business Teacher of the Year, the Virginia Vocational Association Business Teacher of the Year and the Jaycees Outstanding Young Educator.

\ DEEPA CHANNAIAH a William Byrd High School junior and the daughter of Jaya and Arakere Channaiah, won a Central Intelligence Agency award for her science project at the Virginia State Engineering and Science Fair. She also earned an honorable mention in the chemistry category for her project, which was an analysis of caffeine concentrations in selected products. Channaiah won first place and a $50 savings bond in the regional competition and was the recipient of the Promethium Special Award from the Iota Sigma Pi National Honor Society for women in chemistry.

\ WILLIAM BYRD HIGH SCHOOL has received a $37,500 grant from the state Department of Education and the Southern Regional Education Board to help combine academics and vocational education to prepare students for college and the working world.
