"The gallop brings people in to see art and to rest from the rush of the holiday season," said Robert Miller of Miller Off Main Street Gallery in Blacksburg. "It's a great family activity."
Darcy Meeker, a local sculptor and organizer of the event, said this year's gallop includes galleries in Dublin and Narrows, as well as in Blacksburg and Christiansburg. "The New River Arts Council sponsors the event in conjunction with another of its projects, the Gallery of Local Artists," she noted. The Christmas cooperative gallery is at 1901 S. Main St. in Blacksburg.
"We like to take the opportunity of the Christmas gallery to create an event in support of the galleries which supports the artists year-round."
"Besides," Meeker added, "Christmas is a time of year to be in touch with spiritual feelings, and that's what art is about."
