At 11:20 p.m., police were called to a home on the 1200 block of Moorman Road Northwest. Officers found a woman on the porch bleeding from gunshot wounds to the backs of both legs.
Clare Marie Cotton, 28, of Salem Avenue said she had been shot in a nearby alley. She said she did not know who did it, or why.
She was treated at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Shortly before 6 p.m., a 43-year-old woman was shot in the hand, apparently by accident, as her daughter grabbed a handgun from her during an altercation.
Cheryl Mack of the 3800 block of Panorama Avenue Northwest was treated at Lewis-Gale Hospital.
Police determined that two teen-age girls - one armed with a baseball bat - had come to Mack's home and accused her teen-age daughter of spray-painting a car.
When Mack's daughter was attacked by the girls, Mack pulled out a .22-caliber handgun, police said. Mack's daughter took the gun from her, and it apparently discharged as they struggled, police said.
No charges have been filed in either case.
