STAUNTON RIVER FALLS TO BUCKINGHAM

Lewis Jones and Franklin James combined for 35 points Friday night to lead Buckingham County to a 53-50 victory over Staunton River in boys' basketball.

Jeff Wolfrey had a team-high 14 points for Staunton River (1-2 overall, 1-2 Seminole District).

\ Roanoke Catholic 88, Grace Christian 31: In Staunton, Jemarh Patterson scored 22 points to lead the Celtics (2-1) to a non-district victory over Grace Christian (2-4). Roderick Tasco added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Roanoke Catholic. \

Greensboro Day 101, North Cross 57: In Greensboro, N.C., 16 Greensboro Day players scored in a rout of the Raiders (1-1) in a Greensboro Day Classic semifinal. Montrice Smith and Marcus Cardwell scored 17 points each for North Cross, and Hal Johnson had 14. Changie.

\ Cave Spring 75, Franklin County 57: In Rocky Mount, the Knights used a half-court press in the third period to pull away from the Eagles in a Roanoke Valley District game. Aimee Beightol led all scorers with 27 points for Cave Spring (5-0, 1-0). Natalie Giles paced the Eagles (2-3, 0-2) with 18 points.

\ William Fleming 38, E.C. Glass 29: The Colonels used pressure defense to stop the Hilltoppers in a non-district game. William Fleming (4-2) was led by Felecia Manns' 14 points and Ashaki Johnson's 10 assists. \

Grace Christian 40, Roanoke Catholic 39: In Staunton, cold shooting late in the game doomed the Celtics (3-3) to a non-conference loss. Junior center Abby Dickson scored 10 of her 20 points in the third quarter. Roanoke Catholic failed to convert on five shots in the last eight seconds, set up by inbounds plays, rebounds and timeouts.
