N.C. TOWN PLANS AUTO RACING HALL OF FAME

The headquarters of several NASCAR Winston Cup racing teams is slated to become the site of a motorsports museum immortalizing North Carolina's ties to the sport.

Plans for the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame were unveiled by Mooresville Mayor Joe Knox and the chamber of commerce.

The museum is expected to exhibit race cars, a model of a wind tunnel and a collection of safety equipment used through the history of auto racing.

Virgil Hill became the most successful light heavyweight in the history of boxing Friday night, winning a record 15th title defense with a unanimous decision over Guy Waters of Australia at Minot, N.D.

Hill, the World Boxing Association champion for five of the past six years, had been tied with Bob Foster for most successful title defenses in the weight class. Foster held light heavyweight titles from 1968 to 1974.
