VISITING CAPE MAY: THE FACTS

Following are tips for visiting Cape May:

Tolls: About $12 round trip.

Meals for Two: About $130 plus tips for the weekend (without wine).

Lodging for Two: Rates with full breakfast and afternoon tea (highest in summer); two-night minimum most weekends. The Brass Bed, (609) 884-8075, $55 to $150 daily; the Abbey (open April through mid-December), (609) 884-4506, $80 to $175 daily. Both note they are suitable for children over 12. Other B & B's start around $50 daily with continental breakfast and shared bath. Motel rates can run much higher, especially with ocean view. Most lodgings provide beach passes, some also bicycles and parking (important in summer).

Extras: State tax is 6 percent. Free on-street parking a few blocks from downtown; central meters 25 cents per 30 minutes 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. (maximum three hours); private lots typically $5 an hour, $10 all day. Village Bicycle Shop rentals $3.50 an hour, $9 a day. Tours generally $5 to $10; boat, carriage rides more.

Main Events: Seafood Festival June 12-13; Music Festival through June 27; Victorian Week Oct. 8-17. There are numerous Christmas-related activities throughout December.
