HERITAGE CATCHES PULASKI COUNTY

Pulaski County, still hurting from the loss of Eric Webb to a football injury, let a nine-point halftime lead slip away and fell to Heritage 64-55 in a non-district boys' basketball game Saturday night.

Rod Farmer scored 14 points to lead Heritage, which trailed 36-27 at intermission. Calvin Thompson and George Harris added 12 each.

Ty Hash was the leading scorer for Pulaski County (0-2) with 14 points, and Jamar McNair and Jammon Payne added 10 apiece. \

Christiansburg 75

Tazewell 65

CHRISTIANSBURG - Rodney Perdue scored nine of his 16 points in the first quarter as the Blue Demons beat the Bulldogs in a non-district contest.

Christiansburg (3-2) jumped to a 20-13 lead after one quarter off Perdue's early spurt. Tazewell (3-1) cut the Blue Demons' lead to four points in the final quarter, but never got any closer.

Christiansburg's Denny Self led all scorers with 20 points. \

Salem 72

Cave Spring 63

Mark Byington scored nine of his 27 points in the fourth quarter as the Spartans slipped past the Knights in a non-district game.

Matt Matheny kept Cave Spring (2-3) in the game with a game-high 28 points, and was 9 of 12 shooting from the field. But Salem (2-0) connected on 28 of 46 shots from the field, and that proved to be too much for Cave Spring. \

Goretti School (Md.) 82

North Cross 66

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Goretti School had 10 players in a big first period, and the Raiders never recovered in the third-place game of the Greensboro Country Day tournament.

John Cunningham led Goretti (5-1), which jumped to a 24-12 lead after one period. The Raiders' Hal Johnson had a game-high 29 points and 11 rebounds. Marcus Cardwell added 18 points for North Cross (1-2).

The Celtics rallied briefly in the second half, but never got closer than eight points. \

The Knights picked up the intensity in the third quarter to stay unbeaten in a non-district matchup.

Trailing 27-23 at halftime, Cave Spring (5-0) used its full-court press to force Albemarle into several third-period turnovers. The Knights went on to hit eight of 12 free throws in the final quarter to seal the victory.

Cheryl Rhodes scored eight of her 17 points in the third period, Leah Daigle added 16, and Lisa Bryan had 11 points and 13 rebounds.
