DOMINO'S TOLD TO PAY $79 MILLION FOR CRASH

A jury ordered Domino's Pizza Inc. to pay $79 million to a woman who was seriously injured when a Domino's delivery driver ran a red light and hit her car.

The St. Louis Circuit Court jury awarded $750,000 in actual damages and $78 million in punitive damages Friday to Jean Kinder, 49. The 18-year-old driver settled out of court with Kinder for $150,000.

Domino's spokesman Tim McIntyre said Saturday the company is confident the judgment will be reversed.

At issue during the two-week trial was Domino's guarantee to deliver pizzas in 30 minutes or less. If the delivery is late, the customer saves $3. Kinder's lawyer, Paul Kovacs, said the 30-minute guarantee causes too many accidents. - Associated Press
