OBIT DALE, CHARLES JAMES
DALE, Charles James, 63, of Rt. 8, Galax, died Saturday, December 18, 1993,
in the North Carolina Baptist Hospital. Born July 20, 1930, in Grayson County,
Va. to James Dale and Virginia Spraker Dale. He is survived by his wife,
Carolyn Dale and two daughters, Rita Dale, Grayson County, Va. and Shirley
DuPoint, Fla.; two sons, Earl Dale and James Dale both of Grayson County, Va.;
one brother, Eugene Dale, Galax; one sister, Carmel Dale, Washington, D.C. He
served in both U.S. Army and U.S. Navy and retired from the U.S. Navy; served
on ships USS Midway, USS Forrestal and USS John King. He received Vietnam
Service Medal with 2nd Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal and Navy
Unit Commendation, Navy Occupational Service Medal/Europe Clasp and fourth
Good Conduct Medal, period ending November 1969. He also was stationed at the
Norfolk Naval Station, Norfolk, Va. Funeral service will be held Tuesday,
December 21, 1993, at 10 a.m. in the Vaughan Guynn Chapel, Galax, with burial
to follow in the Fries Cemetery. Military rites will be held at the gravesite
by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post #1115. The family will receive friends at the
Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home, Galax, from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
