WASHINGTON - This year's federal income tax forms aren't due for delivery until after the first of the year, but random sightings are already being reported.
Because millions of tax forms have to be delivered, the Internal Revenue Service ships them to local post offices in advance, marked for delivery at a specific date. The 1993 forms are due for delivery Jan. 3.
But every year a few get delivered early, and this year is no exception.
"There have been random sightings here and there," said IRS spokeswoman Johnell Hunter. "We attribute this to either overzealous postmasters or one who wanted to clean up an area" in the office.
"While we make every effort to maintain the holiday spirit by traditionally holding tax forms until the new year, we have made some inadvertent deliveries," said postal spokesman Mark Saunders. - Associated Press
Holiday Inn-Central becomes Ramada
Holiday Inn-Central on Franklin Road Southwest is to get signs next week indicating its new franchise as a Ramada Inn, the motel's new owner said Monday.
Charlie Kim of CSK Enterprises Inc. has bought the motel from lenders that acquired it from Krisch Realty in August 1992. Kim, who is moving to Roanoke from Huntsville, Ala., to run the motel, said he and the staff will train with Ramada personnel next week as part of the changeover.
Ken Yang, also of Huntsville, has leased the motel restaurant. Yang said he will make gradual changes, including the addition of some new drinks and Oriental items to the menu.
Krisch, which has offices behind the motel, managed it until two weeks ago, when Kim took over. - Staff report
