OBIT-BROWN, MELVIN CROCKETT, (`'BUD")

BROWN, Melvin Crockett, (`'Bud"), 72, of Vinton, died Wednesday, December 22, 1993. He was a member of Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church, where he had served on the administrative board. He served during World War II and retired after 20 years in the U.S. Navy. He was also a member of the Vinton Lions Club and retired from Grand Piano. He was preceded by a son, Lt. M. Hugh Brown in 1979. Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Dorothy H. Brown; son, A. Howard Brown, Radford; a daughter, Donna B. Moore; a stepson, C. Wayne Penick, Annapolis, Md.; seven grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 11:30 a.m. Friday, December 24, 1993, with the Rev. Wm. Anthony Layman officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, where the family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
