SEASONAL EVENTS FILL CHURCH CALENDARS

The Gospels of Matthew and Luke tell the familiar Christmas story and remind Christians of the true spirit of giving. The King James translation still rings most poetic to many. From Luke 2:

And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them . . . and they were sore afraid. the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2: 7-11)

Matthew recites the tale of the gifts of the Magi - or Wise Men:

Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem . . . there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem. And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, frankincense, and myrrh. 2: 1; 11.)

Have a joyous Christmas!
