FARMING CONFERENCE STARTS NEXT WEEK

The New River chapter, Virginia Association for Biological Farming, will hold its second annual Grower to Grower Conference Jan. 8, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., at Floyd Elementary School.

The conference will provide a chance for commercial farmers, homesteaders, gardeners and agricultural scientists to discuss issues of mutual concern.

Savanna Williams, director of the Farmers Market Nutrition Program for Rural Virginia, Inc., will be the keynote speaker. She'll talk on "Coalition Building for Rural Development."

Workshops and discussion groups on various topics have been scheduled throughout the day.

In addition to the conference, a potluck luncheon will be held. A fund-raising auction and live entertainment by local musicians David and Ronnie Boyer and Jonathan Bender and Lyn Wolz will follow the conference.

Admission to the conference is $7 in advance, $10 at the door. There is a $2 discount for association members.

Mark Schonbeck, 651-3412, has registration forms and additional information.
