OBIT DIVERS, JOHN IRVIN
DIVERS, John Irvin, 73, of Route 1, Orange, formerly of Franklin County,
died Friday, December 24, 1993, at his residence. He was born February 4,
1920, in Franklin County, a son of the late John Moss Divers and Nannie
Elizabeth Mennix. He was an Army veteran of World War II and had two Purple
Hearts. He was an associate of NASCAR racing since 1950. He was preceded in
death by a son, John Barry Divers. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Martin
Divers, Orange; three daughters, Carolyn Flowers, Knoxville, Tenn., Joyce
Divers, Baltimore, Md., Kim Divers Fugh, Chesapeake; one brother, Milton
Divers, Montvale; one sister, Mary Jenkins, Rocky Mount; six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, at the Good Hope
Baptist Church in Radiant. Interment will be in the church cemetery with full
military honors, conducted by the Rev. Timothy Teates. The family will receive
friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, December 27, in the Preddy Funeral Chapel,
Orange.
