VOTERS' CHUMS

The freshman Republican congressman from the 6th District of Virginia, Robert Goodlatte of Roanoke, has let it be known that he wishes to go by "Bob" Goodlatte.

In this, he is following the pattern of his Decocratic predecessor, who preferred "Jim" Olin to "James" Olin. In the neighboring 9th District, the Democratic incumbent from Abingdon usually opts for "Rick" Boucher rather than "Frederick" Boucher.
