WESTERN AIR FORCE TO REMAIN IN TURKEY

A Western air force helping protect Iraqi Kurds will be allowed to remain in Turkey at least six months longer, Turkish lawmakers decided Tuesday.

Fifty-two British, French and U.S. warplanes are stationed at Incirlik Air Base in southern Turkey. In an effort to deter Iraqi attacks, the planes make daily reconnaissance flights over a semiautonomous state in northern Iraq set up by Iraq's 3.5 million Kurds after the Gulf War. - Associated Press
