SKATEBOARD CHAMP COMMITS SUICIDE

Jeff Phillips, a six-time national skateboarding champion, shot and killed himself Christmas Day in his home, the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office said. He was 30.

Phillips, known for his reckless style and dramatic airborne maneuvers, began skating at age 7. He turned professional in 1980 and became a top skater on ramps and hills.

For the last three years, Phillips owned and operated Jeff Phillips Indoor Skateboard Park in Dallas. At one time he had his own line of skating equipment and apparel.
