OBIT HOFER, CHARLES JULIUS
HOFER, Charles Julius, 94, of Salem, died Tuesday, December 28, 1993. Mr.
Hofer was born in Vienna, Austria and was a member of the International Geneva
Association. He served 33 years as Matre D' of Hotel Roanoke. Mr. Hofer was an
avid world history buff and loved to travel. He held a private pilot's license
and was one of Roanoke's early aviators. He appreciated the beauties of nature
and he loved to cook, paint, play the violin and tend his beloved homestead,
Shangri-La, in Salem. He is survived by his wife, Olga, of Salem; a son and
daughter-in-law, Charles and Zurna Hofer of Roanoke; a daughter, Marie Hofer
of Knoxville, Tenn.; a sister, Maria Vlna of Salem; and two grandchildren,
Cheryl and Chris Hofer of Roanoke. Lotz of Salem is handling funeral
arrangements.
