OBIT OVERBEY, CHARLES O.
OVERBEY, Charles O., ("Sonny"), 59, of Marion, died Tuesday morning,
December 28, 1993, in the Smyth County Community Hospital. He was a life
member of the Marion Lifesaving Crew, the United Commercial Travelers, the
Loyal Order of the Moose #1004, and a member of the Independent Order of Odd
Fellows, Thompson Lodge #88. Mr. Overbey was the founder and an officer of
Better Homes of Southwest Virginia, Inc., and was on the Board of Directors
for the Virginia Manufactured Housing Association and was a member of the
National Rifle Association. Mr. Overbey was an avid car enthusiast, belonging
to the Antique Automobile Club of America and the Early Ford V-8 Club.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Nicewonder Overbey, Marion; two sons, John
Dallas "Jay" Overbey, Marion, Charles O. "Chuck" Overbey Jr., Richmond; one
granddaughter, Rosemary Orlena Overbey, Richmond. Funeral services will be
held 2 p.m. Thursday in Barnett's Marion Funeral Chapel with Rev. Neville
Mozingo officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 4040 8th
Street, N.E., Suite C., Charlottesville, Va. 22902, or the American Heart
Association, C/O Nancy Thompson, P. O. Box 550, Marion, Va. 24354. The family
will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Barnett's Funeral Home.
