ROANOKE VALLEY ECONOMIC INDICATORS

Roanoke Valley automobile dealers kicked off the year with a significant increase in sales. The Virginia Automobile Dealers Association reported that 487 new cars were registered by valley dealers in January. That represents a jump of 19.9 percent from 406 a year ago, despite this winter's bad weather. The figure was down 24.8 percent from the 648 new cars registered in December, typically a better sales month. There were 204 cars registered in Roanoke, 220 in Roanoke County and 63 in Salem.
