HIGH COURT REFUSES VA. DEATH-ROW APPEAL

The U.S. Supreme Court refused Monday to hear Virginia death row inmate Timothy W. Spencer's appeal of one of his four capital murder convictions.

Without comment, the court rejected Spencer's appeal in the slaying of Debbie Dudley Davis, 35, in her Richmond apartment in September 1987. Justice Harry Blackmun, who opposes capital punishment under all circumstances, was the only dissenter.

Spencer, known as the "Southside Strangler," was sentenced to die in the electric chair after each conviction. - Associated Press
