Singer/songwriter Ani DiFranco, 23, may be in the acoustic pigeonhole, but she doesn't have that dreamy peace-and-love quality that leaps to mind with folkies.
With loud, straight-ahead guitar and songs like "Willing to Fight" and "Blood in the Boardroom" on her last album, "Puddle Dive," DiFranco is sooner to shock than soothe.
"The windows of my soul are made of one-way glass," she sings, but with in-your-face lyrics about women and minorities' oppression by "the suits," it's pretty clear where she stands.
"We'll see what you're made of by what you make of me," she sings.
You can make of her what you will Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Old Dominion Ballroom in Squires Student Center on the Virginia Tech Campus. Tickets are $3 students, $5 general public. 231-7117.
