\ MICHAEL DEREK PENNINGTON, son of Mike and Dana Pennington of Roanoke, recently received the Singer Furniture Scholarship to attend Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, N.C.
Pennington is a furniture production management student.
\ MICHAEL SUTTON, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Sutton of Vinton, recently received first place in the local and sixth place in the district Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Scholarship competitions.
His entry was titled "My Commitment to America."
Sutton is a senior at William Byrd High School.
MATTHEW S. RODGERS, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marlin Rodgers of 902 Olney Road, Vinton, was named to the presidential scholar's list at Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y.
Rodgers is a sophmore mechanical engineering major.
