GREEN WAVE CLINCHES 3RD IN METRO

Jerald Honeycutt, Kim Lewis and LeVeldro Simmons each scored 18 points as Tulane won its fifth straight game Saturday, beating Southern Mississippi 83-82 in the Metro Conference.

Tulane (17-9 overall, 7-5 Metro) clinched third place in the conference. The Green Wave could face the Golden Eagles again in the first round of the Metro tournament Friday at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi.

Southern Miss (13-13, 5-7), which lost its fourth conference game by one point, could be seeded fourth of sixth in the tournament it hosts. The Golden Eagles' seeding will be determined after North Carolina-Charlotte and Virginia Tech play today.

Tulane led 73-63 with 3:03 left before Southern Miss rallied.

Bernard Haslett hit two 3-pointers, but the Golden Eagles could not overcome three turnovers in the final two minutes. Southern Miss finished with a season-high 23 turnovers.
