Harris hit seven of nine shots, including all six from three-point range and all six free throws.
South Florida (10-16 overall, 2-10 Metro) trailed 40-33 late in the first half when Robert Polk lost the ball and fouled Terrence Gibson. A controversial technical foul also was called on the play. South Florida coach Bobby Paschal reported official Mike Jag said he called the foul on Polk because of "his attitude and the way he looked at me."
Polk was taken out after the call for having four fouls, leaving Chucky Atkins as South Florida's only perimeter threat.
Virginia Commonwealth (14-12, 5-7) led 52-44 at halftime.
