TECH WOMEN OUST VCU

The Virginia Tech women's basketball won its fifth consecutive game, defeating Virginia Commonwealth 61-46 on Tuesday night in the first round of the Metro Conference tournament.

Christi Osborne scored 10 points in the first half for the Hokies, who led 31-25 at halftime.

Tech led 41-31 with 15 minutes, 44 seconds left in the second half before going on a 13-0 run.

"We knew VCU had nothing to lose and I was concerned we wouldn't be focused," said Carol Alfano, Tech's coach.

Osborne scored 14 points for the Hokies. Center Jenny Root added 10.

Tech will face UNC-Charlotte at 6 p.m. today. The 49ers defeated Louisville 65-62 on Tuesday night.
