"We've got so many trees down up here, it's pathetic," said Richard Morefield, district ranger for the Peaks of Otter District.
A rock blocking the road between the U.S. 460 and Virginia 43 exits will have to be dynamited, Morefield said. Many areas won't be open for a week or longer.
The section between the U.S. 220 and U.S. 221 exits is closed, as well as north of the U.S. 460 exit.
The section between 220 and 460 in Franklin and Bedford counties probably will be open today, Morefield said.
