THE ROANOKE CENTRAL COUNCIL PTA has announced winners for its 1993-94 Reflections contest. The competition encourages creative expression in literature, music, photography and visual arts. This year's theme is, "If I could Give The World a Gift . . ."

The first-place winner in each category will go to the district competition. The winners are:

Literature for kindergarten through third grade are:

First place - Susan Althouse, Crystal Spring Elementary, third grade.

Second - William Urbanski, Fishburn Park Elementary, first grade; and Luke Craighead, Oakland Intermediate, third grade.

Third - Brett Jones, Crystal Spring, second grade; and Jennie Smith, Fishburn Park, third grade.

Honorable mention - Austin Stone, Wasena Elementary, first grade; and Nicholas Byrd, Grandin Court Elementary, second grade.

WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY has named five Roanoke residents to its dean's list for fall 1993. They are Ashley Lauren Berry, Marjorie Merriman Clifton, Kathryn Louise Ford, Melissa Ann Sigler and Marshall August Wakat III.

Students named to the list must earn at least a 3.0 grade point average.

\ ROANOKE COLLEGE recently announced the names of four Roanoke students who fulfilled bachelor of arts degree requirements in December. They are: Lucinda K. Buchanan, daughter of Lila Buchanan; Kari D. Hall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thompson H. Hall III; Marla J. Hall, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Russell N. Hall; and Eric L. Spangler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter N. Spangler.

\ PATRICK HENRY HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS Erica S. Campbell, Jesse L. Chappel and Margaret K. Meyer have qualified as finalists in the 1994 competition for Merit Scholarships. They are among 14,000 finalists for 6,500 scholarships available nationally.

Scholarship recipients will be anounced in April and May.

\ EMORY & HENRY COLLEGE has announced the names of Roanoke Valley students who have been named to the 1994 edition of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges."

They are: Chuck Anderson and Penny Stevens, both of Vinton; Jennifer Sparger of Salem; Karen Sigmon of Troutville; Melissa Bassett of Roanoke; and Terri N. Smith, formerly of Roanoke.

\ MEHREEN S. SHERWANI of Roanoke completed requirements in December for a certificate in business studies from Indiana University Bloomington.

\ JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY has announced the names of Roanoke Valley students who received degrees during the December 1993 commencement ceremonies.

Receiving bachelor of business administration degrees were: John S. Aldridge, Melissa A. Click, James A. Clingenpeel, Glenda R. Morris, Donna L. Woodson and Jenny W. Yeatts, all of Roanoke.

Receiving a master of business administration degree was Ann L. Atchley of Roanoke.

Receiving bachelor of science degrees were David L. Collins and Gina Ferrigno, both of Roanoke.

Stephanie R. Swain of Roanoke received a bachelor of social work degree, and Mark S. Modsell of Troutville received a master of science degree.

ERIN THYME JAMIESON, and KIMBERLY KRISTIN STEWART, both of Roanoke, have been named to the dean's list at Elon College in North Carolina. Jamieson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Jamieson, and Stewart is the daughter of Betty V. Stewart.

\ AMY L. STARR, daughter or Dr. and Mrs. John W. Starr of Roanoke, has been named a college scholar for the fall term at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt.

\ RUTH WALTON, a professional storyteller from Roanoke, received a master's degree in reading and story art from East Tennessee State University. Walton has traveled through the United States telling stories. She went to the former Soviet Union with a group of storytellers and will appear at the Mid-Atlantic Storytellers Festival in June.
