VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR CHILDREN'S FESTIVAL

Volunteers are needed to help Roanoke County residents organize the first Grand Slam Family Jam, a family-oriented children's festival, that will take place May 13.

The festival will feature carnival booths, mini-carnival rides, face painting, a petting zoo, a story reading tent and a children's art show. Crafts and car shows will also be available for adults.

Organizers have solicited sponsorship from the Roanoke/Salem Chamber of Commerce, the Children's Miracle Network and the Roanoke County Department of Parks and Recreation, according to festival planner Becky Farmer.
