10 ROANOKERS PASS VIRGINIA CPA EXAM

Ten Roanoke residents were among the 528 people who passed the Uniform Certified Public Accountant examination, given in November 1993 by the State Board for Accountancy at the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation.

They are JoannL. Berkey, Kimberly K. Houck, Kristy M. Manning, Michelle R. McDonald, Nancy E. McNeary, Thomas J. Molony, Marykay O'Dea, Teri B. Partington, Ruth E. Rathburn and Lynne M. Schumacher.

Dance groups qualify for national competition

Students from the Ardell Stone School of Dancing received several awards at Dance Maker's Inc. regional competition in Charlotte, N.C.

The junior and the senior groups won first place in the jazz and tap category, and the groups combined won first place in the production category.

Both groups qualified for the national competition to be held in Myrtle Beach, S.C., in June.

Members of the junior group are Betsy Cross, Alicia Davis, Allison Elias, Melissa Kell, Ann Ball Lawson, Misha Paiement, Blake Points, Emmy Spencer, Shannon Stanger and Katie Stockburger.

Members of the senior group are Tracy Brumfield, Sarah Clyburn, Kelly Conklin, Amy Edwards, Susan Lawson, Maggie Light and Molly Rutherford.

Lynn Stone instructs the groupsin jazz and ballet, and Ardell Stone teaches tap.

Sweet Adelines to hold competition in Roanoke

Sweet Adelines, International, a non-profit organization for female students of four-part harmony, barbershop style, will have its' Blue Ridge Region competition at the Roanoke Civic Center April 8 and 9.

Quartets will compete April 8, beginning at 6:30 p.m., and the chorus competition will take place April 9, beginning at noon.

The top three quartet and chorus winners and the small chorus winner will perform in the Show of Champions April 9 at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets, which will be sold one hour prior to each event, cost 9$ for the quartet event, $9 for the chorus and $10 for the Show of Champions.

Approximately 1,000 women from six states will compete to qualify at the international level. Quartet finalists will compete in November in Reno, Nev., and chorus finalists will compete in New Orleans in October 1995.
